Beck Martial Arts at Power Play Fitness

View Prices & Class Schedule »
At Power Play Fitness we offer both nontraditional mixed martial arts/kickboxing training for fun and fitness, AND traditional training with the belts, uniforms, respect and courtesy in the cultural aspects of Korean and Filipino martial arts. Both instructors are available for private training, with the following group classes available:

Martial Fitness
Martial FitnessMartial Fitness - Kickboxing/MMA Skills/Physical Conditioning Who hasn't ever felt like HITTING something? Why not work out your stress in a way that gets you in GREAT shape? Relieve tension, maximize your power, lose weight, build strength and confidence, and develop self defense skills all in a non-competitive supportive environment. Students will not be doing full contact beating on each other; we all have to go to work the next day. But we pound the heavy bags full force and train in realistic ways. This is not the typical aerobic kickboxing / Tae-Bo-esque type of class; this is serious training with all instructors having over 20 years of martial arts experience. Once a week we will include basic MMA skills as seen in the UFC, with takedowns, joint-locks, groundwork, and grappling defenses. (Without the tattoos and the attitudes!).
For ages 12-up.
Classes are M/W/F 6-6:50 PM.

Hapkido
Hapkido - Korean martial art of coordinated powerHapkido - Korean martial art of coordinated power.
Hapkido is a comprehensive and effective Korean self defense system involving joint locks, pressure points, throws, kicks, and strikes. Han Jae JI synthesized techniques brought to Korea by Yong Sool Choi with traditional Taoist temple arts to form a nonaggressive martial art that stresses self-development. In Hapkido you learn how to protect yourself in situations ranging from an unwelcome touch to rape or robbery, while developing your self-confidence, self-control, concentration, and stress management. This range of control allows you to protect yourself fully without hurting the opponent more than is necessary for the situation. Size, strength, and gender are unimportant in Hapkido-a woman or child can control a large man with proper technique.
For ages 15-up.
Classes are Mon/Wed/Fri 7-8 PM.M.

Arnis
Arnis - Filipino martial art of stickfightingArnis - Filipino martial art of stickfighting and more Arnis combines stickfighting, knife fighting, karate, and jujitsu. The basis of the art, variously known as Kali, Escrima, or Arnis; was used by the people of the Phillipines to free themselves from Spanish rule over 300 years ago. The art is known primarily for weapons training, but also involves empty hand strikes, kicks, joint locks, grappling, throws, empty hand forms, and stick forms. For ages 15-up.
Classes are Mon/Wed 8-9 PM

Greg Pearson Greg Pearson's KickBoxing (GPK) is geared toward all levels of martial arts enthusiasts, from the newbie who never set foot in a dojo, to the skilled elite who are looking to sharpen their skills. Don't worry about being left behind or bored to sleep, GPK is both foundational and progressive, and it will do for you what you came to do...burn fat, build lean/flexible muscle, and pick up a skill that you've always wanted to possess. Before becoming a personal trainer in 2005, Greg taught martial arts for over twenty years, in both Houston and most recently in Southern California. He treats every client as an individual, with individual needs. His approach to fitness is based on a three point, self-check philosophy:

1) How am I feeling both physically and emotionally?
2) Are my clothes fitting better?
3) Is my body starting to look the way I want?

The human body is the best picture of the human soul.
